AUNTY’S HOUSE

Yay, I got the part! I booked a co-star role in a new series called Aunty’s House. I play a woman named Kita who owns a hair salon. She uses her salon to clean money for a local drug dealer. I really enjoyed auditioning for this character. The scene was very action-packed. There were multiple people in the scene and many things happening at once. My character had to be aware of and react to. My character’s emotions went from happy, to angry to fear all in one scene. It’s a juicy role for an actor and I’m glad I booked it.

Being on the set of Aunty’s House really inspired me. African American women ran the entire production. Tiffany M. Harding, the writer, producer, and director of the series was amazing. She knew exactly what direction to give the actors to get the performance she wanted out of them. The director of photography was a woman, the production assistant was a woman, and all of my scene mates were women as well. It was an awesome experience being surrounded by young black women all working and doing their thing. Getting to know these women between takes was the most fun. Many of the ladies are up in-coming rappers. One of my co-stars even hosts her own radio show. All of these ladies had multiple projects and jobs in the works but showed up to support each other in filming this series. Hearing chatter about music video shoots, dance rehearsals, location scouting, and script rewrites really left an impression on me. Everyone is out here working, grinding, and succeeding. We all are happy to work hard for our dreams because it is our passion to create and tell stories.

The series is still in production but I can’t wait for it to come out. I know Aunty’s House is going to be a great watch, full of action, drama, and fun entertainment.
